Course Description

This course if for people who want to know more about the intrinsics of Praat's analysis, synthesis and manipulation algorithms, about tricks in scripting, and about the Demo window. The course will centre on the problems adduced by the students. You will all have a computer with a microphone and Praat at your disposal.


Day-to-day Program

The division into five parts below is quite tentative, because the direction that the course will take will depend on the students.

Monday:
Properties of Praat's pitch and intensity algorithms (analysis, synthesis, and manipulation).

Tuesday
Properties of Praat's spectrum and formant algorithms (analysis, synthesis, and manipulation).

Wednesday:
Scripting tricks and the Demo window.

Thursday:
Listening experiments: the built-in multiple-forced-choice experiments, adaptive experiments in the Demo window.

Friday:
Simulations: language learning, simulations in the Demo window.
